What are the Benefits?
1. Antibacterial Effects
Dihydromyricetin powder has significant inhibitory effects on cocci, bacilli, Gram-positive bacteria, and Gram-negative bacteria, and also has some inhibitory effects on yeasts and molds.
2. Regulating Blood Sugar and Lipids
Dihydromyricetin can significantly enhance the body's antioxidant capacity, inhibit hyperlipidemia, and has the effect of lowering blood sugar and improving insulin sensitivity in various diabetic patients.
3. Hepatoprotective Effects
Dihydromyricetin has significant protective effects against rat hepatocytes damaged by carbon tetrachloride poisoning, and against liver damage induced by D2-galactosamine and lipopolysaccharide in mice.
4. Antioxidant Effects
As a natural antioxidant, dihydromyricetin has the same structure as tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ). As one of the internationally recognized food antioxidants, dihydromyricetin extract has been widely used in oil paintings and oil-containing foods in dozens of countries and regions. It effectively and rapidly replaces traditional antioxidants. Under similar conditions, dihydromyricetin can be used below 220℃. Its effective concentration in peanut oil is 0.04%, and when added at half the amount of dihydromyricetin, its effect is superior to vitamin C (VC).
Relevant Experimental Data
1. Protective Effect of Dihydromyricetin on Intestinal Injury
In vitro experiments: Using rat small intestinal crypt epithelial cells as a model, different concentrations of AFB1 and DHM were applied. Results showed that AFB1 concentration-dependently reduced cell viability; DHM reversed the downregulation of tight junction proteins induced by AFB1, inhibited Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway activation, reduced the expression of calpain I, Bax, and inflammatory factors, while increasing Bcl-2 levels.
In vivo experiments: BALB/c mice were continuously administered AFB1 (200 μg/kg) and different doses of DHM (100, 200 mg/kg) by gavage for 30 days. Results indicated that AFB1 led to decreased small intestinal villus height and crypt depth, reduced tight junction proteins, abnormal Nrf2/HO-1 pathway, imbalance of apoptosis-related proteins, increased inflammatory factors, and decreased intestinal flora diversity. DHM intervention significantly improved all of these indicators.
Conclusion: Dihydromyricetin alleviates aflatoxin B1-induced intestinal damage by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, enhancing intestinal barrier function, inhibiting apoptosis and inflammatory responses, and remodeling the intestinal flora structure.

2. Dihydromyricetin: A Natural Anti-Aging Agent
In March 2026, a team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and others published a study in *Nature Communications*, discovering that dihydromyricetin possesses significant anti-aging activity through screening a natural product library.
Mechanism of Action: Dihydromyricetin can protect senescent fibroblasts from DNA damage and inhibit age-related secretory phenotypes. Proteomics analysis showed that its mechanism of action involves promoting the translocation of peroxidase 2 (PRDX2) into the cell nucleus, thereby enhancing the DNA repair capacity of senescent cells.
Animal Models:
Mouse Model: Dihydromyricetin can reduce the degree of tissue aging and alleviate age-related physiological functional decline.
Cancer Model: In anti-cancer treatment regimens, dihydromyricetin can enhance the effect of chemotherapy.
Alzheimer's Disease Model: Dihydromyricetin can clear amyloid-β protein plaques in senescent microglia and alleviate neurodegenerative symptoms.
Conclusion: Dihydromyricetin is a natural anti-aging agent with potential application value in the intervention of various age-related diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
