Product Introduction

What is marigold extract powder?

Marigold extract powder is a carotenoid, a natural pigment widely found in vegetables, fruits, flowers and other organisms. It is especially abundant in marigolds. It is orange-red or orange-yellow and its main components are lutein and zeaxanthin. The molecular formula of lutein is C40H56O2, and its relative molecular mass is 568.87.

marigold extract Lutein powder is an orange-yellow powder with a faint smell of hay, insoluble in water, soluble in propanol, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, and dichloroethane, and has good heat resistance. Lutein is widely found in green vegetables. Among them, marigold has the highest lutein content. According to the provisions of GB 26405-2011 national food safety standard for food additive lutein, the food additive lutein comes from marigold.

YTBIO supplies lutein powder in bulk, available in extract, microcapsule powder, oil suspension and other forms and specifications. Lutein powder is encapsulated to isolate it from the air and has a certain inhibitory effect on discoloration and oxidation. It can be used in functional foods and health products.

All products provided by YTBIO implement the highest international industry standards and comply with EU EC396, EU 2023/915 and the highest solvent residual standards. We have a systematic quality management system and organize production in strict accordance with ISO, HACCP and other quality standards. We have passed many certifications such as Halal, Kosher, FDA, ISO and so on. With our excellent R&D team, experienced production team, and professional sales team, we can customize various standard extracts and proportional extracts.

What are the benefits of Lutein?

Improve vision

Lutein is the main carotenoid that maintains visual function and is particularly accumulated in the retina and lens. Zeaxanthin contained in dietary lutein/zeaxanthin and its metabolites accounts for 25% of the total cucurbitacins in the retinal macula of healthy eyes. As a strong antioxidant, lutein can quench monoclinic oxygen and form an effective blue light filter within the retina of the human eye, minimizing oxidative damage caused by blue light. Thereby protecting rod and cone cells and effectively preventing and improving macular degeneration and cataracts caused by strong light exposure. Appropriate supplementation can increase the level of lutein in human plasma, increase macular pigment density (MPOD), and effectively prevent early retinopathy.

Filter blue light

External light consists of light of different wavelengths, with shorter wavelengths having higher energy. If the intensity of light and the duration of light exposure exceed the tolerance of the retina, damage to the retina will occur. The higher energy of blue light will increase the number of free radicals in the macular area of the retina, thereby increasing the amount of metabolic waste in the macular area and causing greater damage to the retina.

Lutein is yellow because its molecular structure absorbs and filters blue-violet light and reflects yellow light, which is the function of protecting retinal cells. Especially when the eye receives too much blue light and near-ultraviolet light, lutein can absorb these rays, acting like a blue light "filter" on the retina. It protects the macula and retina by preventing harmful blue-violet light from acting directly on retinal cells.

Antioxidants

Lutein, as a type of tetraterpenoid compound, is rich in conjugated double bonds and has strong free radical scavenging ability, which can effectively prevent oxygen free radicals from damaging cells. Some scholars used chemiluminescence method to study and analyze the scavenging effect of marigold luteolin on peroxide, superoxide anion, hydroxyl radical, and lipid free radical. It was found that luteolin has a strong scavenging effect on the above-mentioned free radicals.

Based on the in vivo ethanol oxidative damage model in mice, the synergistic antioxidant activity of two carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin) was studied by combining in vitro antioxidant and in vivo antioxidant methods. When the ratio of lutein to zeaxanthin is 1:2, the synergistic antioxidant activity of lutein and zeaxanthin is better. In the study of the relationship between lutein and the oxidation of brain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), it was found that mitochondrial lutein was negatively correlated with the oxidation products of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Subcellular lutein accumulation in the primate brain and its relationship to DHA oxidation have also been studied, suggesting that lutein may be involved in antioxidant functions in the brain.

What are the market applications of Lutein Powder?

In the food field:

Lutein powder bulk has good coloring effect, is bright yellow, insoluble in water, soluble in oil and ethanol, and resistant to light, heat, acid and alkali. Lutein powder is widely used as a coloring agent in pastries, candies, beverages, and rice and flour products. Lutein is used as a coloring agent in drinks and jellies. Lutein is added to orange juice drinks, milk drinks, and carbonated drinks, and the lutein retention rate reaches more than 90% after 6 months of storage.

For health supplements:

Lutein powder bulk is one of the carotenoids. Relevant studies have proven that it has a significant effect in preventing age-related macular degeneration and other eye diseases. In 1995, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviewed the usefulness and safety of lutein and approved its use as a food supplement. In 2008, my country included marigold lutein in the catalog of new resource foods. Currently, marigold extracted lutein powder is widely used as a raw material for health foods and dietary supplements.

For feed products:

Feed-grade lutein powder can be used to add color to poultry skin, fat, shin bones and egg yolks, as well as to add color to trout, salmon, snapper, shrimp and crab. The deposition pattern of lutein in egg yolk in chicken feed has an impact on production performance, causing egg yolk, chicken skin and chicken fat to appear bright yellow.
