Product Introduction

What is sesamin?

Sesamin powder, a lignin compound, is a natural antioxidant and the main active ingredient in the seeds or seed oil of Sesamum indicum DC., a plant in the family Sesamaceae. In addition to sesame seeds in the family Sesame, it is also isolated from a variety of plants. Sesamin, such as: Asarum from the Aristolochiaceae family, Asarum from the Rutaceae family, Liangmianzhen from the Rutaceae family, Bashan Zanthoxylum bungeanum, the traditional Chinese medicine Cuscuta japonica, Cinnamomum camphora and other Chinese herbal medicines have also been found to contain sesamin. Although these plants all contain sesamin, their content is not as high as that of sesame seeds of the flax family. Sesame seeds contain about 0.5% to 1.0% lignans, the most important of which is sesamin, which accounts for about 50% of the total lignan compounds.

Sesamin is a natural ingredient contained in sesame seeds. Sesame seeds contain about 0.3-0.5% sesamin. Sesamin has excellent antioxidant effects and can resist aging, regulate blood lipids, protect the liver, lower blood pressure, regulate immunity, make hair black and shiny, and many other physiological effects. In human trials, it has been proven that sesamin can be transported to the liver and metabolized into antioxidant substances in the liver, with a stronger antioxidant effect than vitamin E.

Sesamin powder

What are the benefits?

1. Antioxidant effect

Sesamin Powder can remove excessive peroxides, hydroxyl free radicals, and organic free radicals in the body. The production and elimination of oxygen free radicals in the human body are in relative balance. If this balance is broken, many diseases will follow. . Studies have found that sesamin can increase the activity of free radical scavenging enzymes, inhibit oxidative stress reactions, reduce the generation of oxygen free radicals, and play a protective role in target organs [15]. In in vitro antioxidant experiments, it was found that sesamin has good antioxidant capacity against DPPH free radicals, hydroxyl free radicals, superoxide anion free radicals and ABTS free radicals, and is close to the antioxidant performance of the common antioxidant VC. A better antioxidant.

2. Anti-inflammatory effect

Inflammation is defined as a series of defensive responses of body tissues with vascular systems to damaging factors. Inflammation can affect cell proliferation, metabolism and other physiological activities, leading to pathological changes in human tissues. Inflammation also often causes abnormalities in the number and function of osteoclasts, leading to excessive bone resorption and leading to the occurrence of many inflammatory osteolysis diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, infectious osteolysis, aseptic loosening of joint prostheses, and periodontal disease. Yan et al. Studies have found that sesamin can inhibit osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption, reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, inhibit osteoclast differentiation, and reduce LPS-induced osteolysis. The specific mechanism may be that sesamin inhibits ERK. and NF-κB signaling pathway inhibit osteoclast differentiation and specific gene expression. Therefore, sesamin may be a potential drug for the treatment of inflammatory osteolysis.

3. Cholesterol-lowering effect

Increased serum triglycerides and cholesterol are important factors in inducing atherosclerosis and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In experiments on the effects of sesamin on blood lipids, blood sugar, and vascular remodeling in rats fed with high fat and high sugar, it was found that sesamin has a hypolipidemic effect. Its mechanism is related to sesamin increasing lipase activity, increasing fat metabolism, and reducing fat deposition. In a clinical trial of sesamin applied to people with hypercholesterolemia, it was found that the total serum cholesterol of the sesamin group decreased by an average of 8.5%, the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) content decreased by an average of 14%, and the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level decreased by an average of 14%. (HDL-C) increased by an average of 4%, the effect is close to that of anti-lipid drugs and it is safe and has no side effects.

4. Protect the liver

The metabolism of sesamin occurs mainly in the liver. Sesamin can regulate the activity of alcohol and fat metabolic enzymes, promote ethanol metabolism, and promote fatty acid beta oxidation, thereby reducing the damage of ethanol to the liver and the accumulation of fat in the liver.

Studies have pointed out that sesamin has the effect of promoting alcohol metabolism and promoting beta oxidation of fatty acids. It can excrete alcohol and chemical substances and reduce chemical liver damage to the liver. In addition, as the liver is the metabolic organ of sesamin, its antioxidant properties can be directly reflected in the liver and have the effect of enhancing liver function.

5. Antihypertensive effect

It can increase the concentration of NO in human venous endothelial cells and inhibit the concentration of ET-1 in endothelial cells, thus inhibiting and regulating the increase in blood pressure. In addition, sesamin can significantly improve hemodynamics in rats with renal hypertension, and its mechanism may be related to its anti-oxidation, increased myocardial NO and decreased ET-1.

6. Reduce blood lipids

Excessive cholesterol and triglycerides are the main causes of hyperlipidemia. High-density cholesterol can transport cholesterol from extrahepatic tissues to the liver for metabolism and be excreted by bile. Its plasma content is related to the risk of cardiovascular disease. Negative correlation. During the metabolic process, sesamin can inhibit the δ-unsaturated enzyme reaction, promote the production of a series of eicosenoic acid, and reduce the body's absorption and synthesis of cholesterol, thus exerting a blood lipid-lowering effect.

In addition, sesamin also has anti-radiation, anti-mutation, neuroprotective and anti-anxiety effects.

Application

Judging from current research, antioxidant property is the main function of sesamin, and it comes from natural vegetable oils, so it can be used as an effective oil antioxidant. Experiments pointed out that 0.04% sesamin in soybean salad oil has The antioxidant activity is equivalent to 0.02% BHT and it is a potential natural antioxidant.

Antioxidant effect is also the highlight of health care functions. Among approved health foods, antioxidant products have a wide audience and many products, and are already the best in the market. Globally, there are only a handful of functional foods related to Sesamin Powder.

Current research on sesame lignans mainly focuses on the study of mixtures, while independent research on sesamin is mostly about synthesis, extraction, purification, etc. Because the content of sesamin is very low, if it cannot be effectively enriched, its Functional research will inevitably not be fully carried out.
