What Is 4-methoxyphenol?
4-Methoxyphenol, also known as p-methoxyphenol, p-hydroxyanisole, etc., is a chemical substance with a chemical formula of C7H8O2. It appears as white flakes or waxy crystals, easily soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene and ethyl acetate, and slightly soluble in water. It is mainly used as an inhibitor for vinyl plastic monomers, an ultraviolet inhibitor, a dye intermediate, and for the synthesis of edible oils and cosmetic antioxidants such as BHA. Its biggest advantage is that the monomer after adding MEHQ does not need to be removed when copolymerizing with other monomers, and can be directly copolymerized by ternary polymerization. It can also be used as an antioxidant, antioxidant, etc. It is not only an important fine chemical product, but also an important intermediate for the synthesis of fine chemical products such as medicines, pesticides, and spices.

Production Method
(1) Dimethyl sulfate method: dimethyl sulfate is used as a methylating agent and reacted with hydroquinone under alkaline conditions to obtain the product. The reaction formula is as follows:

(3) p-Anisidine is used as a raw material. Under the action of mixed acid, p-Hydroxyanisole is obtained by two-step reactions of diazotization and hydrolysis. The reaction formula is as follows:
This process has the advantages of low raw material cost, simple operation, and easy industrialization, making the production of this product highly competitive in the market. Based on p-Anisidine, the synthesis yield reached 76.8% and the purity reached more than 99.5%.
