What is Carophyll Yellow?

Carophyll Yellow is a highly effective feed colorant with β-apo-8'-carotene ethyl ester (abort ester) as its main active ingredient. Its mechanism of action utilizes the unique bioavailability of apo-8'-carotene in poultry. Through feed addition (recommended dosage is typically 30-150 grams per ton), carotenoids are deposited in egg yolks and chicken skin, resulting in a golden or orange-yellow color. Simultaneously, the antioxidant properties of carotenoids help extend the shelf life of eggs. The difference between this product and Carophyll red:

Both are colorants used in animal feed, mainly used to improve the color of animal products (such as egg yolk, skin, etc.) to make them look more vivid and attractive. They are both carotenoid pigments, but the ingredients and occasions of use are slightly different.
The main component of Carophyll red is canthaxanthin, which is widely used in feed, mainly for poultry feed, especially for coloring egg yolk, edible poultry, salmon and crustaceans. It can increase the color and brightness of animal skin, feet, ketone bodies and eggs. It is characterized by bright color, but excessive intake may be harmful to the retina.
The main component of carophyll yellow is carotene acetolide. Due to its low cost and high bioavailability of poultry, it is the best choice to improve the color of egg yolk and broiler skin.

The effect of both in feed

Carophyll red has a higher trans isomer ratio (77%), which helps better pigment deposition and coloring, and its uniformity index is low, which makes it better mixed in feed. In addition, it has excellent antioxidant function, can improve the toughness of egg yolk membrane, reduce the occurrence of loose yolk during storage, and extend the shelf life of eggs.
Carophyll Yellow Powder also has a high trans isomer ratio (91%), which also helps the pigment to deposit and color better, and its uniformity index is low, making it better miscible in feed. It performs well in premixes and feeds, but because carotenoids are sensitive to factors such as light, oxygen, temperature and humidity, attention should be paid to stability issues when using it. ‌

1. Stability in premixes and feeds
Carotenoids are very sensitive to factors such as light, oxygen, temperature and humidity. Therefore, in the process of feed production, it is crucial whether the product can withstand the test of strict new production processes and whether it can resist and tolerate contact with some possible destructive components in mineral multi-dimensional premixes.

However, the content of naturally occurring carotenoids and lutein in animals and plants is usually low, and the quality varies greatly, which is not enough to make the egg yolk or chicken skin achieve a satisfactory color.
