Bulk Centella asiatica extract is an active ingredient extracted from the Umbelliferae plant Centella asiatica, which is widely used in the fields of medicine, cosmetics and health products. Its main active ingredients are triterpenoids, such as madecassoside and asiatica glycoside, which give Centella asiatica extract a variety of pharmacological activities.
Active ingredients of Centella asiatica extract
Centella Asiatica Extract is a natural substance obtained through scientific extraction processes from the leaves and stems of the Centella asiatica plant. It contains a high concentration of triterpenoid compounds.
The primary triterpenoid chemical constituents in Centella asiatica belong to two categories:
α-Amyrin-type triterpenic acids: Including Asiatic acid, Madecassic acid (Hydroxyasiatic acid), Madasiatic acid, and Brahmic acid.
α-Amyrin-type triterpenoid saponins: Including Asiaticoside, Madecassoside (Asiaticoside B), Thankuniside, Isothankuniside, Brahmoside, and Brahminoside.
Additionally, Centella asiatica contains meso-inositol, polysaccharides, tetraterpenoids (primarily carotenoids, chlorophyll, and vanillic acid), amino acids, and is rich in trace elements.
It is precisely these active components that confer the remarkable skincare efficacy to Centella Asiatica Extract.
Main effects of Centella asiatica extract
·Promote wound healing and tissue repair
It can significantly accelerate the healing process of skin wounds (such as surgical trauma, burns, and ulcers). Its mechanisms include promoting cell proliferation, increasing collagen synthesis, and improving local blood circulation, thereby accelerating wound repair and scar repair.
·Anti-inflammatory effect
It has significant anti-inflammatory activity, can effectively inhibit the release of multiple inflammatory mediators, and reduce inflammatory reactions. It shows certain therapeutic potential for both acute and chronic inflammation.
·Anti-depressant and anti-anxiety effects
It has the characteristics of improving emotional state and can play an auxiliary therapeutic role in depression and anxiety.
·Antioxidant effect
It is rich in various antioxidant ingredients, which can effectively remove free radicals and protect cells from oxidative damage, thus exerting anti-aging effects.
·Other multiple effects
In addition, Centella asiatica extract also has multiple beneficial effects such as antibacterial activity, improving skin conditions (such as moisturizing, whitening, and enhancing skin barrier function).
A Top Ingredient for Skin Care : Bulk Centella Asiatica Extract
In recent years, the application research in the field of skin care has been continuously deepening. The Bulk Centella Asiatica Extract has various functions when used in skin care products and cosmetics.
Nourishing and Repairing Effects
Centella asiatica is most renowned for its nourishing and repairing effects on the skin, stemming from its potent herbal active constituents. Asiaticoside inhibits skin fibrosis (coarsening) by altering the ultrastructure of fibroblasts, suppressing the expression of related proteins, and significantly reducing their synthesis, secretion functions, and proliferative capacity.
Scar Repair
Asiaticoside also effectively repairs skin scars. It reduces scar hyperplasia by decreasing the activity of scar substance-synthesizing enzymes while increasing the expression rate of proteins that inhibit these enzymes. Furthermore, asiaticoside effectively accelerates collagen generation, plumping subcutaneous cells. It promotes the activity of scar fibroblasts, increasing the synthesis and secretion of collagen fibers and matrix components. These synergistically with newly formed capillaries to form granulation tissue, filling defects and creating conditions for epidermal coverage. Hydroxyasiatic acid (Madecassic acid), Asiatic acid, Madecassoside (Hydroxyasiaticoside), and Madecassoside (Asiaticoside B) also significantly inhibit fibroblast proliferation and promote collagen expression.
Soothing and Calming Effects
Centella asiatica contains multiple α-Amyrin-type triterpenes with sedative and calming effects. Adding it to skincare products helps soothe the skin and alleviate sensitivity.
Antioxidant Activity
Radiation, pollution, and other factors generate free radicals that seize electrons from cells, causing cellular mutation, aging, or disease. Studies show that Centella asiatica leaves and roots (with roots exhibiting the highest activity) possess high antioxidant activity and can scavenge excess free radicals.
Whitening Effect
Tyrosinase is the key enzyme for melanin synthesis. Centella asiatica can significantly inhibit its activity, effectively reducing melanin content and whitening the skin.
Hydration and Moisturization
Centella asiatica extract significantly increases stratum corneum hydration, demonstrating strong moisturizing properties. This is primarily related to its triterpenoid saponin compounds (hydrophilic sugar chains, mainly glucose and rhamnose), which bind water within the barrier layer, enhancing epidermal barrier function and improving skin hydration.
Reducing Edema
Centella asiatica can eliminate edema. It possesses properties for clearing heat, detoxifying, promoting diuresis to reduce swelling, and aiding the repair of damaged skin tissue.
Acne Treatment
Centella asiatica can also be used for acne treatment. Research shows that products formulated with its natural active substances, antibacterial components, and other natural anti-acne ingredients possess effects such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, acne-fighting action; skin conditioning; inhibition of harmful skin bacteria and mite growth; and enhancement of skin immune regulation.
As a all-natural skin care products, the potent skincare efficacy of Bulk Centella Asiatica Extract has gained widespread recognition. It is believed that with the continuous advancement of science and technology, its application in skincare products will become increasingly widespread, bringing healthy skin to more consumers.
Applications of Bulk Centella Asiatica Extract
Apart from its application in the field of skin care products, the effects are also manifested in:
Pharmaceutical field
Used for treating skin ulcers, keloids, depression and other diseases.
Health care product
As components of health supplements, they have functions such as improving memory, combating fatigue, and promoting physical health.
Asiaticaoside: Helps Skin Repair and Regeneration
Asiaticaoside is one of the main triterpenoid saponins in Centella asiatica extract. Studies have shown that Asiaticaoside has the potential to inhibit scar formation, promote wound healing, and exhibit anti-tumor, neuroprotective, anxiolytic, and immunomodulatory effects.
Promotes Fibroblast Proliferation and Wound Healing
Studies have shown that Asiaticaoside can promote fibroblast proliferation and extracellular matrix synthesis during wound healing. When human fibroblasts were treated with Asiaticaoside, gene expression profiling revealed upregulation of genes involved in cell proliferation and extracellular matrix synthesis, as well as significant increases in mRNA and protein levels encoding type I and type III collagen. It also enhanced cell adhesion and migration, promoting cell proliferation. In vivo wound studies have shown that asiatica significantly promotes wound healing, with healing rates significantly higher than those in the blank control group at 7 and 12 days after wounding. Histopathological studies of rat skin have shown that Asiaticaoside promotes the regeneration of collagen and skin appendages.
Wound healing
Inhibiting Scar Formation
Some studies suggest that asiaticoside has dual effects, promoting wound healing and inhibiting scar formation. Asiaticaoside is primarily used to prevent and treat scarring after wound healing. Recent clinical findings suggest that it is also effective for treating unhealed burn wounds, shortening wound healing time and inhibiting excessive scar proliferation. Asiaticaoside may promote collagen maturation and wound healing by affecting the expression of heat shock protein 47, thereby alleviating scar formation.
Research has shown that asiaticoside can inhibit the proliferation of scar tissue fibroblasts and the expression of type I and type III collagen mRNA in scar fibroblasts. This suggests that asiaticoside inhibits overactive fibroblasts, thereby suppressing their collagen secretion, thereby inhibiting collagen proliferation and intervening in scar formation.
Other studies have shown that asiaticoside primarily inhibits scar proliferation and fibroblast proliferation via the Smad pathway.
Preparation of Asiaticaoside
Asiaticaoside is a major component of Centella asiatica extract. It promotes wound healing and can be used to treat trauma, surgical wounds, burns, keloids, and scleroderma.
Preparation Method
Currently, the process for extracting asiatica from Centella asiatica is relatively complex. Traditional methods for extracting total Centella asiatica glycosides involve extraction, concentration, adsorption, elution, decolorization, concentration, and drying. This complex process is associated with low extraction efficiency and purity.
A novel, highly effective method for preparing asiaticaoside is disclosed, comprising the following steps:
·Dried Centella asiatica is coarsened to a 50-mesh powder and placed in an extraction tank. 10-15 times the volume of deionized water is added, the mixture is gently boiled at 90°C for 2 hours, and then filtered.
·Activated magnesium oxide and activated carbon are added to the filtrate, heated and stirred to uniformly disperse the mixture. After 1.5 hours of reaction, the liquid is observed to have lost its color and is then filtered and pressure distilled to a density of 1.0 g/cm³.
·Slowly passing the concentrated extract through a macroporous resin column with an aspect ratio of 2:1 to 6:1 for adsorption. After adsorption, washing with deionized water and eluting with 50%-70% ethanol is performed. Finally, the extract is concentrated under reduced pressure and dried in vacuo to obtain a block-like pale yellow dry extract, which is asiaticoside.
