Orientin is a biologically active flavonoid monomer with a wide distribution. It is higher in the total flavonoids of Nasturtium. It is also widely distributed in many medicinal plants such as the genus Pteris of the family Pteridaceae, bamboo leaves of the genus Phyllostachys, pigeon pea leaves, and Morus alba of the genus Crataegus. It has multiple biological properties such as antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, neuroprotective, cardiovascular protective, anti-allergic, and anti-inflammatory.
